The Roof is a big rooftop bar in Gowanus with a bunch of picnic tables, a nice view, and a good draft beer selection. Also, it’s on top of a Whole Foods. And, while it’s technically part of this Whole Foods, it’s a surprisingly nice place to hang out. There’s a big menu of burgers, salads, and various cheeses, and they also serve wine. The only catch is, you won’t sound very cool when you tell people that you’re hanging out at Whole Foods. But that’s why lying was invented.

Runner & Stone
Don't make the trek down to Gowanus just for Runner & Stone, but if you want a reliable meal in the neighborhood, go for it.
Lavender Lake could get away with being a just great bar with a large outdoor patio. However, it scores extra points from us for putting some care into curating a small but solid selection of bar snacks and entree sized plates.

Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken
Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken seems primed and ready to be reproduced and franchised all across the country. Whether that’s the actual plan or not, we have no idea. America could only be so lucky. Watch your back KFC. The Bromberg bros are coming for you.
Good Enough To Eat
The Upper West Side may not be flush with noteworthy dining out options, but they certainly have one meal on lockdown – brunch. Good Enough To Eat has been an institution up in these parts for a good 30 years, and a spot we'll happily go to for simple, heavy handed home cooking.
The Commodore is bad. Bad because merely looking at the food here will jack up your cholesterol thirty points, and worse because everything is so good that you’ll crave it all the time.
