They aren’t the trendiest Mexican spots anymore, but we’re still fans of the various Toloache locations around town. They do semi-upscale Mexican food, with things like lobster tacos, steak, various ceviches, and (for some reason) miso black cod. This location on 82nd has a particularly nice backyard, and it works well for an outdoor brunch or a warm-weather date night.

Moti Mahal Delux, on the Upper East Side, is the first US franchise of the massive Indian restaurant chain from New Delhi.
Pil Pil is a solid Upper East Side option for brunch, especially if you’re in the mood for sangria.
Nica Trattoria is an old-school (and cash-only) Italian spot on the UES where you’ll probably meet the owner and eat some gnocchi.

As we’re all well aware, Mexican food in Manhattan generally blows. Empellon hasn’t come to save the day, but it isn’t adding to the problem either. While nothing blew us away, the food was solid with the good outweighing the bad.
