Ask someone who lives in Gowanus (like, who really lives in Gowanus, like who’s kayaked on the Gowanus at least three times) about their favorite local restaurant, and they’re going to tell you about Reyes Deli. Then they'll tell you to please not tell anyone else about Reyes Deli. (Sorry, Louis.) The small, family-owned bodega on 4th Avenue is stocked with things like pickled jalapeños and corn tortillas, and there’s a grill that cranks out some of the best tacos in the area. We like the al pastor, but you really can’t go wrong. Anything topped with their salsa verde, which they also sell by the jar, will make you feel torn—between wanting to keep this place to yourself, and wanting to buy a Reyes Deli t-shirt to wear every single day.
