Palace Seafood is a strip mall spot with decent dim sum that doesn’t require crossing the 405—and that alone is an accomplishment. Overall, everything from the fried dough sticks to the shumai and steamed buns at this Brentwood restaurant are pretty standard, with a few notable standouts. The har gow are soft and packed with shrimp, and the beef rice noodles are silky with a meaty, juicy filling. No one is pretending this is the greatest dim sum in LA, but Palace is a solid Westside option to keep in your pocket if a craving strikes and you don’t want to leave the area.

We wouldn’t want to live at the Americana Glendale, but we’ll gladly stop in for some excellent soup dumplings at Din Tai Fung.
