If you’ve ever thought to yourself “I’d like to play a round of pickleball and shop for antiques while eating Detroit-style pizza,” then Grammar is the answer to your very specific prayers. This counter-service, all-day cafe is located in The School House, a school that’s been converted to a multi-use space in River North. The aforementioned Detroit-style pizza is quite good, with dough that’s like a light and airy, crusty focaccia versus the caramelized, oil-soaked pan crust Detroit-style is known for. During the day, the space feels like a museum cafe without the tourists, ideal for a quiet coffee and breakfast dishes like chilaquiles. In the evening, be prepared to share your post-work drink at the small bar with the over-50 singles’ pickleball league.
