Warm weather is here, vaccines abound, and Chicago has reopened. But most importantly for our purposes today, a range of restaurants and bars have reopened, and are hosting special events and pop-ups. That’s why we’re curating a weekly list of all the most intriguing stuff to eat and do around the city. Here’s what’s happening from June 22nd - 29th.

After over a year, Wherewithall in Avondale is finally reopening. This is fantastic news because the four-course seasonal tasting menu at Wherewithall is always incredible, and this place was also one of our Best New Restaurants of 2019. Make reservations here for dinner, walk in and have a drink, or snack at their bar or out on the patio.

More exciting reopening news: HaiSous in Pilsen just reopened for indoor dining. This excellent Vietnamese restaurant is offering a $65 nine-dish family-style tasting menu, or you can order a la carte. Make reservations here.

Time Out Market recently reopened with a bunch of new vendors, including Shawn Michelle’s (one of our favorite ice cream spots in the city) and Soul & Smoke, which is in the running for Chicago’s best barbecue. You can find the full lineup here.

Ok, one more reopening. Fried chicken restaurant Split Rail in Humboldt Park has finally reopened for dine-in with a new menu. Plus, now they’re sharing their space with The Martin, a community space for local artists.

Currency Exchange Cafe

We lied, this is the last reopening on this list. The Currency Exchange Cafe in Bronzeville promotes local artists, musicians, and chefs, and on Thursday they’re throwing a grand reopening Happy Hour. It’s from 5:30-7:30pm, and will feature food from their new cafe, Retreat. The party will be hosted by DJ Sean Doe.

On June 24th from 4:30-6:30pm Sugar Goat is holding an ice cream social for Pride on their new sidewalk patio. Tickets are $22 and include an ice cream sandwich, cupcake, cocktail, and portions of each ticket will be donated to Brave Space Alliance. Buy a ticket here.

This is just a regular ol’ new restaurant opening you can check out this week. Adalina is an upscale Italian restaurant that just opened in the Gold Coast. The menu has dishes like arancini, housemade pastas, and entrees like bass Vesuvio. They also have an extensive wine list.
