File District Commons under: Top Foggy Spots to Bring the Parents. It’s a huge restaurant serving classic American food, and it has much fewer tourists than Founding Farmers, which it’s usually grouped with. It’s not a mind-blowing experience, but it’s safe - especially if your mom “loooooves” oysters and “absolutely has to” try crab cakes while she’s visiting you “in the South.” It doesn’t need to be at the top of your list, but if you need a big table on short notice, they can probably accommodate.

Jack Rose Dining Saloon
There's a full dining room at Jack Rose, but we like this U Street Corridor spot more for the enclosed rooftop. Get a whiskey cocktail.
The Fainting Goat
Fainting Goat isn’t great, but you’ll end up here at some point. When the time comes, go heavy on the drinks and light on the food.
A classic that can be used for dates or heavy drinking. Maybe even at the same time. The food’s great too.
