What to get: The “treasure box”

The Shota, the omakase restaurant in FiDi, pivoted to a casual spin-off called Yubu during the pandemic. They focus on donburi and inari sushi (and at one point, an excellent katsu sandwich that’s sadly no longer on the menu). What makes Yubu special is the combination of high-quality fish and presentation. Take the “treasure box,” for example - a colorfully festive, tightly packed box of uni, negi tori, unagi, and salmon roe that you (or your friend) will probably photograph immediately upon arrival and upload to your phone as your lock screen background. You can place an order for lunch or dinner delivery here.

If your idea of a solid birthday involves sitting in front of a colorful, fresh chirashi bowl in your sweatpants while Alexa blasts Rumours (Super Deluxe), then order from Yubu, a new takeout operation from The Shota. They’re specializing in inari ($5-9) and donburi (around $30), and also offering $40 DIY hand roll sets with fatty blue fin tuna, scallop, crab, and eel, and bottles of sake.

The Shota has pivoted from their 15-course kaiseki/omakase-style dinners, and focused their attention on takeout-friendly inari sets and chirashi bowls. Their lunch menu includes four Japanese sandwiches, including chicken katsu, tamago, and ichigo. But if you want to go all out, order the wagyu sandwich - it’s $18, and comes with a thick cut of tender, buttery beef and caramelized onions, neatly placed between two slices of crustless white bread.

As Yubu, the high-end omakase spot is offering inari, donburi, and DIY handroll sets for $24 (vegetable) and $40 (seafood). Order online or call 628-224-2074.
