Meat just tastes better when it’s cooked on real charcoal, so we expected the casual Richmond KBBQ spot Wooden Charcoal Barbecue House to be excellent—but charcoal can’t do all the heavy lifting. On the whole, the meats lack the marbling and seasoning required to get those perfectly fatty, juicy bites. Still, it’s easier to get a seat here compared to other places in the neighborhood, but if you have time to wait, we’d just send you to Brothers instead.
