Hong Kong Lounge II
Where we've featured it
Hong Kong Lounge 2 is not a place you go to for the ambiance, or if you’re planning on going out afterward. It looks like a retirement community cafeteria, it’s not really near anything we’d classify as ‘nightlife,’ and the only place you’ll be partying after is the “I-ate-too-much-but-it-was-so-good” aisle of a CVS. But none of this disqualifies groups from having a good time here because the Chinese food is incredible. Everything from the scallion pancakes to the pork siu mai to the dim sum delivers so go with a group, try everything, and ponder what happened to Hong Kong Lounge 1.
You can get great pork buns at plenty of places on Clement Street, but our favorites in the city are from Hong Kong Lounge II on Geary. It’ll take a little more effort than popping in and out of a counter shop because this is a sit-down place, but the quality of the dim sum is well worth it. It’s best to come here with a small group so you can try more things, but once you’ve found your favorite, make sure the steamer basket doesn’t leave your sight.
At Hong Kong Lounge II, you can take a long lunch from your home office and pretend you’re meeting with three people by eating enough dim sum for a table of four. The pork buns are some of our favorites in the city, and Clement Street is nowhere close to the FiDi where anyone from work could spot you like if you were in Chinatown.
