Estela Is Reopening, & More NYC Restaurant Updates

Events to Know About

• There’s a new crepe pop-up in Bushwick on Troutman Street at Farewell Brooklyn. Stop by their window starting at 7am any day of the week to pick up a crepe with jamon, figs, brie, and cornichons. Find out more and place your delivery order here. They have sweet options, too.

• This Friday, October 23rd, the chef from Nakamura will be cooking a few different kinds of ramen at Good Enough To Eat on 85th Street on the UWS. The event starts at 6pm, and you don’t need to buy a ticket ahead of time.

• Bronx Night Market is now open every weekend through November. Stop by Fordham Plaza from noon to 6pm to try things like lobster rolls, chicken and waffles, and grilled kebabs from local vendors. You can find out more information and RSVP here.

• This Saturday from 2pm to 8pm, Daughter (a relatively new mission-driven coffee shop and natural wine bar in Crown Heights) is having an outdoor event with wine, as well as sandwiches and skewers. Every month, Daughter donates 10% of their profits to a non-profit organization doing good for the Black community. • Saigon Social on the LES (one of our favorite restaurants to have opened this year) is hosting an outdoor Vietnamese hot pot night on Tuesday October 27th. Each $85 ticket includes a drink as well as hot pot with bún bò huế broth. You can find out more and reserve tickets here.

Restaurant Openings & Reopenings

• Estela on Houston Street is reopening on November 4th for limited indoor dining. According to someone on their team, the menu will be similar to what it was before the restaurant shut down in March (which means creative small plates that have historically made us, most people we know, and President Obama grateful to be eating in NYC). While the restaurant has been closed since March, Estela has been operating outdoor dining on the ice rink at Rockefeller Center. If you’re interested in making an indoor reservation at Estela, check their website a few days beforehand.

• There’s a new sushi spot in the East Village called Rosella that focuses on ingredients sourced in the US. You can check out the menu here and stop by for outdoor dining Wednesday through Sunday, or order delivery online.

• City Winery just opened a huge new wine bar right on the Hudson River in Chelsea. The inside area seats up to 200 people at socially-distanced tables, and there’s also a full-service waterfront patio.

• On Wednesday, Cosme in Flatiron opened for indoor-only dining service. They’re serving a four-course prix-fixe menu for $98 per person and only accepting reservations. If you feel attached to their duck carnitas and corn husk meringue, know that those dishes are also available a la carte. You can book a table here.

Early in-Person Voting Starts This Saturday in NYC

• Find all the details about your assigned early voting place and when to show up here.

• To celebrate New Yorkers participating in democracy, Concord Hill in Williamsburg is giving out free shots to anyone who shows their voting sticker during Happy Hour, beginning Saturday October 24th. Make sure to drop by from 4pm to 6pm Tuesday through Sunday.

• Dandelion Wine in Greenpoint has a daily “vote pack” of wine available. Each pack comes with six bottles and a price that’s usually about $100 less than the retail value. The entire cost of the wine pack benefits the ACLU of Pennsylvania to protect voter rights in a swing state. Make sure to follow Dandelion Wine on Instagram to see the daily vote packs.

Closings, Loosened Restrictions, & Other Updates

• On Wednesday morning, Governor Cuomo announced the loosening of nonessential business restrictions in parts of Queens and South Brooklyn (like Sheepshead Bay, Forest Hills, Far Rockaway, and Kew Gardens). • Unfortunately, Corner Bistro in LIC, Hop Shing in Chinatown, and Mooncake Foods in Soho have shut down permanently. Stay up to date with our running list of places that have closed as a result of the pandemic here.

• Edith’s, a pop-up making Jewish diasporic food, is staying at Paulie Gee’s in Greenpoint for the foreseeable future. You can stop by starting from 9am to 2pm, Thursday through Sunday for challah, sabich, latkes, and more. Check out some other pop-ups here.

• Hanson Dry in Clinton Hill announced that they’ll be shutting down until spring 2021 starting November 8th.
