It’s really a shame the food at Matador Room isn’t better (or, at the very least, less expensive) because the Mid-Beach spot is one of the most gorgeous restaurants in Miami. Matador Room is located in the Edition Hotel, and has a circular dining room, the center of which is sunken like one of those conversation pits from the ‘60s. But even though it looks impressive, Matador Room will remind you it’s a hotel restaurant when the food arrives. It’s mostly mediocre, overpriced dishes. There are some boring pizzas, perfectly whatever snapper crudo, and "everything crusted calamari" that only comes with a small sprinkle of poppy seeds. If you do find yourself here, get the arroz con pollo—the best thing on the menu—and spend more time appreciating the interior design than what’s happening on your plate. You can also come here just to drink. There’s a small cocktail bar just outside the dining room that’s not a bad place to play tourist or meet a friend from out of town who’s staying in the area. Just expect those cocktails to be about $20 and up.
