Layla is a Middle Eastern restaurant in the back of the Kayak Miami Beach hotel. The best part of this place is the outdoor seating, which is a secluded little patio alongside a narrow canal. It’s quite charming, and a great place to have a few drinks and some mezze like hummus or labneh with pita bread. But that’s about as good as this place gets - the overpriced entrees aren’t worth your time. The falafel is $16, and it comes with just three falafels that have an unpleasantly dry, crumbly texture. The $28 shawarma grilled chicken is fine - but it’s just a plate of chopped up, under-seasoned chicken and nothing else. If you go deep into the menu, it’ll be hard to leave this place satisfied. But as long as you stick to mezze, salad, and cocktails, Layla is pretty enough to justify making a reservation.
