Miami’s Curfew Is Over, And Nightlife Couldn’t Be Happier

Bars and restaurants won’t kick you out at 11:59pm anymore.

Miami-Dade County no longer has to go home at midnight. Or, more specifically, bars and restaurants no longer have to close at midnight. Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava officially lifted the midnight to 6am curfew this past Monday.

The curfew had been in effect since July 3, 2020, which, according to the calculator on our phone, was over eight months ago. Levine Cava’s emergency order states that businesses still need to follow a few rules to remain open: comply with mask requirements, provide hand sanitizer or facilities for hand washing, and use “reasonable efforts to ensure that customers and employees on site maintain appropriate social distancing.”

There was never much support for the curfew in Miami, especially over the last few months. Miami-Dade was the only county in Florida that had a COVID-related curfew. In March, a group of Wynwood bars and restaurants even tried to sue the county to end the curfew.

So it makes perfect sense that Miami nightlife has been celebrating the end of curfew extra hard this week. E11even, the 24/7 Downtown megaclub, did a countdown for the curfew like it was New Year’s Freaking Eve. Over Under was so happy they took to iMovie to create a slightly unhinged but highly entertaining post curfew movie...trailer?

The Miami Beach club LIV also announced that they’re opening back up for the first time since lockdown on April 16. And, in a sure sign that nightlife nature is healing, Mac’s is once again open till 5am.

Also, our late-night eating guides are no longer completely irrelevant, so check them out below. And remember to mask up, sanitize, and tip generously, whether you’re out at 3pm or 3am.
