If you enjoy those weird pop-up restaurants that pass through town with themes like Saved By Bell or Beetlejuice, you’ll absolutely love Chain. This celebrity-backed concept operates out of a warehouse-y event space in Virgil Village and is essentially an opportunity for nostalgic millennials to relive their 90’s fast-food fantasies. Tickets are $50, which gets you access to a Ben & Jerry’s sundae bar, sugary cocktails, a row of arcade games, and whatever chain restaurant homage is on the docket that day (past menus have included tributes to Taco Bell, McDonald’s, and Pizza Hut.) The experience is a good value for what you get—and the pizza we had was quite tasty—but we couldn’t shake the feeling that the whole algorithm-engineered production isn’t much deeper than, say, posting a selfie with Grimace and a can of Surge. If you’re bored on a Saturday and looking for something to do with your kids (or child-like friends), Chain is a fun and cheesy 35-minute walkthrough. Just don’t expect much beyond that.
