Lots going down this weekend in LA. Allergy season is in full swing, which means that the city’s flowers are in full bloom, and we’ve never needed so much Allegra. But other than that, there are some incredible events happening this weekend, like Shanghainese soup specials in Chinatown, bakery pop-ups, and lots of places to buy gifts for your mom. Here’s what you should be doing and eating in Los Angeles this weekend, May 7th through 9th.

The event runs from 12-2pm on Jefferson Blvd.

The Chinatown tea shop has added a new item to their menu. It’s a take on the Shanghainese soup, yanduxian, a warm dish usually eaten during the spring when fresh bamboo shoots are available. Their version contains pork belly, cured Chinese ham, bamboo shoots, and bean curd knots, and is available for pickup and delivery through their website.

Westsiders, rejoice: Night Market’s Venice location has now reopened for dine-in service. Walk-ins are available, but due to their limited capacity, priority will be given to reservations. Head to their website to place one.

From May 16th through 23rd, Pop Off LA is creating a special food event that centers LA’s rich AAPI community restaurants and chefs. According to their website, it’s “not a festival,” but rather an event where chefs across the city collaborate on one-of-a-kind, limited-edition dishes. On their opening day, Secret Lasagna will be teaming up with Anajak Thai to create a chicken kraprao lasagna, made with red sauce and Thai basil pesto, and Bridgetown Roti will be partnering with Rice Box to serve okra callaloo with fried soft shell crab and porchetta. Even though it’s not happening this weekend, each dish/collaboration will be available only on the date(s) listed, and needs to be preordered. Head to their website for more information.
