6 Exciting Things To Do & Eat In LA Between August 4th - 8th
Somehow, we’ve already made it to August, which means we’re in the official home stretch of summer and spooky season will be here before we know it. While that’s good news for pumpkin carvers and black turtleneck supporters, perhaps you’re not quite ready to pack it in for fall just yet. Luckily, there are great events happening all around town this weekend that’ll help you soak up even more summer energy.
Check Out Another Fair
Another summer day, another summer fair. This time it’s the official Summer Fair of LA, which opened last weekend at Santa Anita Park and runs through August 22nd. Plus, there’s a flash sale right now where you can walk in for free. The festival itself has over 40 bands and food vendors, 50 carnival rides, and a wide variety of stunt shows.
Drink Up
In the mood for some avocados? Angel City Brewery in the Arts District is hosting a full-on Avocado Fest to celebrate the re-release of their Avocado Ale. The event runs this Saturday, August 7th from 1-7pm and includes avocado-inspired food, live music, and games. Admission is free.
Give Back
School is just around the corner for most kids in LA, and non-profit group Children Striving Together is hosting their 8th annual Back To School Giveaway. That’s happening Saturday, August 7th at noon at Grocery Outlet in Compton. They’re looking for an array of school supply donations, so if you’re interested in volunteering or being a vendor at the event, email childrenstrivingtogether@gmail.com.
Learn a New Skill
Airliner is one of our favorite dive bars on the Eastside, and this Saturday, August 7th, they’re hosting a “Swingtronic Speakeasy.” The event starts at 8pm with professional swinging dancing lessons, followed by live music throughout the evening. Admission is $20 per person and proof of vaccination is required. No refunds will be given if proof is not presented.
If you’re sick of only being able to make yourself vodka sodas at home, The Association bar and nightclub in Downtown LA are hosting two separate cocktail classes this week. On Friday, August 6th, the theme will be tiki drinks while on Saturday, it’ll be all things fire. Each class starts at 8pm and runs for an hour. Tickets are $40 per person and include three different craft cocktails.
Explore a Neighborhood
This Sunday, August 8th, consider joining this two-mile walking tour of Downtown that will explore the food, history, and architecture of the neighborhood. The tour runs from 12-3pm and includes four different food tastings, plus stops at Union Station, The Bradbury Building, and more. The all-inclusive tickets are $80 per person.
