Once you walk through Obon’s glass doors and into the tight, wood-filled dining room—with a view of the chef calmly slicing sashimi in the kitchen—you’ll immediately feel removed from the stresses of London. A meal at the small Japanese restaurant on Kingston’s Richmond Road is a relaxed one. Pick from classics like California maki and toro nigiri, while sitting in between a family tucking into the comforting kake udon, and a couple working their way through the sake set menu. The prices are high, but the quality means it’s absolutely deserving of it. Plus if you’re popping in for a couple of sushi rolls, you could leave satisfied for £30.
