Everything’s Changing Again As London Gets Ready To Enter Tier 2 Lockdown

As London moves from medium covid alert level to high, here’s what we know about the new restrictions and how they’ll affect eating and drinking.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan announced today that London is set to enter Tier 2 lockdown from midnight on Friday, October 16th. This comes just three weeks after the government announced a 10pm curfew, obligatory face coverings, and the rule of six, in a wave of new restrictions affecting daily life in England.

We now know that they were Tier 1 restrictions. But because keeping up with the changes feels increasingly like returning home late at night only to find someone’s rearranged your furniture, here’s a quick summary of what we currently understand of the new Tier 2 rules and how they’ll impact eating and drinking in London:

  • Londoners will no longer be able to meet anybody outside of their household or support bubble in any indoor setting, whether private (like homes) or public (like restaurants and pubs).

  • The rule of six still applies if you’re meeting people in an outdoor setting such as a patio, garden, or restaurant terrace.

  • Pubs and bars are able to remain open but must continue to respect the 10pm curfew, as well as the other Tier 1 rules that were introduced in September.

We’ll bring you more updates about the new restrictions as we get them. In the meantime, if you have any questions, email us at london@theinfatuation.com.
