EEEEEATSCON: Doing It For The First Time, All Over Again

Last spring, we at The Infatuation decided to do something big and risky and probably a little bit irresponsible: we put on a food festival in Los Angeles. It was a success, and not just in the sense that it didn’t spell the end of our company. People seemed to have a really good time, and we felt like our concept proved out. So, we put on another one in LA just a few months ago. And it was even better the second time around.

Now we’re doing something bigger and riskier and probably even more irresponsible, but also absolutely necessary. In October, we’ll be bringing EEEEEATSCON home to New York City, to Forest Hills Stadium in Queens.

Tickets are on sale for EEEEEATSCON NY today, and it occurred to me that while much of our NYC audience has probably seen EEEEEATSCON happen from afar on Instagram, we haven’t spoken directly to you about what exactly this thing is. Allow me to enlighten you.

Important Things To Know

  1. It’s a food festival, so you’ll be happy to know that there will be food. We’ll have a highly curated selection of restaurants from all parts of New York City and a few from outside of NYC, all set up in booths around the stadium grounds.

  2. You need a ticket to get in, and the ticket price does not include food or drink inside the event. People often ask us why we don’t just do a more expensive ticket that includes everything you want to eat inside the festival. One reason is that “all you can eat” means different things to different people. Another is that we don’t want this festival to be one where a restaurant hands you a big plate with one tiny shrimp on it. We’d prefer you be able to come and eat real human-sized portions and pick and choose what you want to try. So, we try to keep the ticket price reasonable, and to provide as much value as possible to you for that price, including music, entertainment, panels, access to cool brands, and the privilege of being in a room with a whole bunch of people you’ll probably get along with.

  3. We will have music at the event, but EEEEEATSCON is also definitely not a concert. We’ll be booking a wide range of talented acts and performers, so that you can choose what you want to engage with and what you don’t.

  4. We will also have speakers and panels happening throughout the day, some from the food and restaurant industry, and some not. We strive to program EEEEEATSCON such that you come away inspired to do something new: explore a new kind of wine, find a new hobby, start a new company, or volunteer your time for a great cause. This part is our favorite part of the festival. And it’s included with your ticket price.

  5. Tickets are on sale before the lineup is announced, because demand has been high and we want you to be able to buy a ticket and block off the date before you make some other, far inferior, plans for October 6th. The full slate of restaurants and entertainment will be announced soon, so hopefully you trust us that it won’t suck. These early-on-sale tickets are cheaper, because our partners at American Express are awesome. Through July 16th, you can get all this action for just $15 (plus fees) if you purchase with an American Express card. Buy them here.

Those are the basics. We’ve learned a lot of lessons by putting this event on twice in Los Angeles. Chief among them is that for all that we put into programming the day, it’s really all about community. EEEEEATSCON at its core is meant to be a place where all of us can come together and have a good time.

We’re excited for EEEEEATSCON New York. Hopefully you are too.
