The Original Rainbow Cone
Where we've featured it
Seasonal spots are a great way to keep track of when summer (unofficially) begins and ends. The Original Rainbow Cone, a seasonal ice cream shop in Beverly that’s been around since 1926, is a good example. Just like us, this place can’t wait for winter to be over, which is why it opens for spring and summer ahead of schedule, in the middle of February. The namesake ice cream cone here is made with layers of chocolate, strawberry, Palmer house (vanilla with walnuts and cherries), and pistachio ice creams, plus orange sherbet, and it’s the perfect treat for keeping up the illusion that the good weather is permanent.
What do the San Antonio Spurs and Rainbow Cone have in common? Championship pedigree, consistency, longevity, and an entire team (of colors), playing together unselfishly. They have the mental edge on everyone else, and look really, really good in pictures.
This classic Beverly ice cream shop opened in 1926. It definitely gets points for nostalgia, but at the end of the day, you come here for one thing: the rainbow cone. It’s made with layers of chocolate, strawberry, Palmer House (vanilla with walnuts and cherries), and pistachio ice creams, plus orange sherbet. While this may not be the combination you’d go for on your own, somehow all the flavors work perfectly together. Also cool? This season they debuted an ice cream truck, whose location you can track on Instagram.
Ok, so we admit that including an ice cream shop that’s been around since 1926 is a little random. But it’s also fun: The Original Rainbow Cone is offering a special Easter ice cream cake. It’s eight inches and includes the signature Rainbow Cone flavors - chocolate, strawberry, palmer house, pistachio, and orange sherbet. Plus, it’s decorated with peeps, candied eggs, and buttercream frosting. The Easter cake is $46.50 and must be ordered 24 hours in advance.
The Original Rainbow Cone is indeed available for delivery.
