If you’ve ever thought, “I’d like to experience a rapid-fire omakase while drinking cocktails in a Lincoln Park hotel suite,” Sushi Suite 202 is the answer to your very specific prayers. At this speakeasy from the same people behind Sushi By Bou, you have exactly 75 minutes to enjoy your $140, 17-course omakase. In reality, 75 minutes might get cut down to 45 if not all six seats at the counter are filled, or if prior seatings take longer thanks to multiple rounds of sake shots. It can feel rushed, but you won’t really mind because there’s not much to savor. The sushi (almost all straightforward nigiri) is fine, the pieces are fairly small, and the menu depends on the chef you get that day. There are better sushi restaurants in Chicago, but the real draw here is the novelty of eating in a second-floor room of the Hotel Lincoln. It makes for a casually intimate meal, ideal for dates with a hard stop trying to make a Second City show, or people looking for a unique dining experience. Take over the whole suite with a group and pretend you have your own bartender and personal sushi chef, at least for an hour.

Sometimes the sequel is better than the original, and that’s the case with Kyoten Next Door—a fantastic omakase in Logan Square.
