Mr. Pimento

“Sweet,” “smoky,” and “spicy”—three words we’ve heard used to describe our contemporary solo dance routine, and the same words we’d use to describe our first bite of tender jerk chicken at Mr. Pimento, a Jamaican food trailer parked at The Buzz Mill, a coffee shop and bar on East Riverside. The specialty here is, as you’ve probably guessed by now, jerk chicken, and it’s some of the best in town. The meat is marinated and smoked until the skin builds up some beautiful charred edges, then it all gets tossed in a sweet, tangy barbecue sauce that packs a bit of heat. The end result is some incredibly tender and flavorful chicken that you’ll want to go at with your hands to pick off every last bit. On the side, you’ll find a few other menu items like mac and cheese, fries, and some excellent sweet plantains, plus rotating specials like jerk chicken wings or jackfruit.
