Where we've featured it
Gelateria Gemelli is a small sidewalk-shop on the East Side that mostly sells amari, coffee, and, of course, gelato. We’re big fans of their Fernet Stracciatella gelato, but with the weather heating up we’ve found ourselves gravitating towards lighter flavors. Our favorite recent combo was a mixture of blackberry, nectarine, and lemon curd gelatos, because three flavors just felt necessary for triple-digit temps. And you can convince yourself that you’re getting a serving of fruit. They’re accepting takeout orders from a small station set up in their doorway, and also have a few tables along the sidewalk.
East Side gelato and amaro-focused spot Gemelli currently has their interior closed, with limited seating on their sidewalk patio. They also have a takeout window setup where their entryway is, so you can conveniently pick up gelato and cocktails at the same time.
While Austin’s East Side seems to have no shortage of ice cream and gelato, Gelateria Gemelli consistently comes out as one of our favorites. There are some great classic flavors, like lemon curd and pistachio, as well as less-common ones like miso vanilla. They also double as a coffee shop, which means you can turn any of these into a delicious affogato for a perfect, late-afternoon pick-me-up.
