Austin Restaurants Giving Back To The Black Community Right Now

Austin restaurants have started stepping up and donating a portion of their profits to local and national organizations like Austin Justice Coalition, Black Lives Matter, Campaign Zero, and more. We’ve compiled a list of those restaurants below. We’ll continue to update it, too, so please email us at austin@theinfatuation.com with any suggestions.

Please also consider visiting a Black-owned restaurant or food truck. Here’s our updated list of over 75 Black-owned restaurants and bars in Austin open for takeout, delivery, or dine-in service, organized by neighborhood.

• Better Half: For the month of June, a portion of Better Half’s proceeds will go to the Austin Justice Coalition.

• Bufalina: Both locations of Bufalina - Cesar Chavez and Burnet - are partnering up with restaurant “industry friends” for special pizzas to raise funds for Campaign Zero, the Austin Justice Coalition, and The Loveland Foundation. It starts June 10th and runs for six consecutive Wednesdays.

• Bummer Burrito: During June Bummer Burrito will donate a portion of their proceeds to the Austin Justice Coalition.

• Creature Coffee: Creature Coffee, inside Native Hostel on the East Side, will donate all of their sales on the first Sunday of every month to “an Austin based charity that focusses on helping people of color.” On June 6th, all profits went to the Austin Justice Coalition.

• Epoch Coffee: Over the weekend of June 6-7, Epoch and Oatly matched donations to the Austin Justice Coalition, Until Freedom, and 400+1, totaling $20,310.

• Emmer & Rye: On Sunday, June 14th, the Rainey Street restaurant Emmer & Rye is hosting an ice cream social on their patio with proceeds benefiting the Greater Austin Black Chamber’s Culinary Arts Scholarship.

• Fleet Coffee: Starting Tuesday, June 9th, and one Tuesday a month indefinitely, the East Austin coffee shop Fleet will donate half of their sales to “a black and brown organization doing work in Austin for marginalized people.” This month they’re donating to the Austin Justice Coalition.

• Foxtail Supper Club: Foxtail Supper Club, the digital supper club that recently launched, is donating all of its June profits to the NAACP.

• Gourmands: The East Side bar/sandwich shop Gourmands is donating 10% of sales for the week of June 8-14 to the Austin Justice Coalition.

• Holdout Brewing: For the month of June, the new Clarksville brewery/restaurant Holdout Brewing will donate proceeds from draft and “Save Austin Drink Beer” merchandise sales to the Austin Justice Coalition.

• Justine’s Brasserie: The East Side French restaurant Justine’s donate all sales on Friday June 5th in Breonna Taylor’s name to the Austin Justice Coalition.

• Kome: From Thursday, June 11th though Sunday, June 14th, the Japanese restaurant Kome will donate 10% of total sales to the non-profit African American Youth Harvest Foundation.

• LoLo: The wine shop/bar LoLo donated 100% of their profits on Saturday June 6th to the Austin Justice Coalition, raising $3,400.

• Nickel City: Nickel City hosted a weekend-long fundraising effort, offering $0.05 Jim Beam Highballs to any customers bringing in a receipt from their neighbors J. Leonardi’s BBQ, The Rolling Rooster, Tony’s Jamaican Food, or Nice N Clean car wash. They will also donate $7 for every Jim Beam Highball purchased to the Austin Justice Coalition.

• Nixta Taqueria: The East Side taqueria debuted a weekend special called the “E. 12th breakfast taco” in collaboration with their neighbors at Sam’s Bar-B-Que. All proceeds from the taco are going to Six Square and the Texas Civil Rights Project. In addition, a portion of their weekly sales will be donated to the ACLU, Black Lives Matter, the 400+1 Bail Fund, and GoFundMe campaigns for hospital bills.

• The Peached Tortilla: For the next three months, Burnet Road restaurant Peached Tortilla is going to donate $2 for every milkshake sold of their Shakes, Burgers, and Bubbles series to the UNCF.

• Ramen Tatsu-Ya: All the open restaurants from the Tatsu-Ya team - Ramen Tatsu-Ya, Kemuri Tatsu-Ya, and the DipDipDip Pop-Up - pledged to donate all of their sales on Saturday, June 6th to the ACLU and NAACP. They donated $38,320.

• Rosen’s Bagels: Rosen’s Bagels pivoted to a bake-at-home model called fRosen’s temporarily. For the month of June they’ll be donating 50% of proceeds to the Austin Justice Coalition.

• Salt & Time: The East Side butcher shop, restaurant, and market is matching donations up to $1,000 to the Austin Justice Coalition.

• Southold Farm + Cellar: The winery Southold donated $1,000 each to Campaign Zero and The Federation of Southern Cooperatives/Land Assistance Fund

• Suerte: The East Side Mexican restaurant Suerte donated $1,000 of their outdoor dining sales to the Austin Justice Coalition. This week they’ll be donating $1,000 to the KDH Giving Fund.

• Sweet Treats Bakery: The Oak Hill bakery Sweet Treats is donating all the proceeds from their Black Lives Matter cookies to the Austin Justice Coalition and Black Lives Matter.

• Tiff’s Treats: The cookie delivery company Tiff’s Treats donated $10,000 to both the NAACP and the Austin Justice Coalition.

• Via 313: The Detroit-style pizzeria Via 313 will be donating $1 from every Bobo Brazil - a special pizza with sausage, calabrese, Aleppo pepper flakes, and Mike’s Hot Honey - or side of ranch sold at all five of their locations to the ACLU and the NAACP for the month of June.

• Weathered Souls: Weathered Souls Brewing in San Antonio has started a collaborative brewing effort titled “Black Is Beautiful.” As part of it, breweries all around the world are invited to brew their own version of the Weathered Souls base stout, with 100% of the beer’s proceeds going to local foundations that support police brutality reform and legal defenses for those wronged. Austin breweries that have joined this cause so far include 4th Tap, Austin Beerworks, Batch Brewhouse, Black Star Co-Op, Hold Out Brewing, Jester King, St. Elmo Brewing, The Brewtorium, Oddwood Ales, Roughhouse Brewing, and Zilker Brewery.

• Wright Bros. Brew & Brew: East Side coffee and beer shop is donating 100% of proceeds for the month of June from all coffee sales to the Austin Justice Coalition.
