The Peach Cobbler Power Rankings

Since Georgia is The Peach State and damn near every street in Atlanta has peach in the name, it’s only right that we have a guide devoted to our most famous dessert. We spooned our way through a disturbing amount of peach cobblers so we could discover who came out on top. Some places must’ve forgotten the seasoning. Others went a little too hard with the sugar. And some, we had to put out an A.P.B. to even find a single peach. But eventually we found peach cobbler perfection at these top five venues.

There’s a reason the Peach Cobbler Cafe has multiple locations in Atlanta—because you can pop in and out for a soul food plate filled with delicious homestyle classics. But are you really doing it right if you don’t order the restaurant’s namesake dish? The peaches are juicy and a touch of cinnamon adds some warm spicy flavor without overpowering the dish. The dough is heavy enough to hold the dessert together, but it’s not so dense that you’re chewing for an eternity.

As a steakhouse with delicious soul food sides, LowCountry in Midtown is already firmly cemented in our list of go-to dinner spots. But we’ll come in just for their skillet peach cobbler at the bar. (They don’t offer this dessert for takeout, trust us we’ve tried.) Served hot from the oven with ice cream on top, this cobbler has a balanced crust-to-fruit ratio. Sweet caramel adds a layer of unexpected flavor we love.

Yes, Paschal’s was once a gathering spot for Civil Rights activists like MLK, John Lewis, and Andrew Young. These days, you’ll see business folks and families hanging out at the huge two-level restaurant in the West End, but one thing has been as dependable as Atlanta traffic after 3 pm—their delicious cobbler. It's made with sweet, tender peaches and topped with a gooey, perfectly salty crust.

Busy Bee in the West End is known for its fried chicken, but a close second would have to be its peach cobbler. Here’s the thing: it’s packed with cinnamon and cloves. So if you’re not into spice-rich cobbler, this one isn’t for you. But the warm spices give this dessert more layers and cut through the sweetness, so it's a winner in our book. The cobbler serving is big enough to split, but you might start getting territorial when you’re down to the last few bites.

Sweet Red Peach’s cobbler is made with peaches that taste fresh—and the baked peaches still keep their texture, so you’re not chewing unidentifiable goop. And the doughy crust is so generous it spills out of the pan, so dough lovers will like this one. It’s a big portion, so it’s ideal for sharing after you’ve hit up the food stalls at Lee + White Food Hall. Just get here right when they open because they sell out fast.
