Moon Rabbit’s permanent home in Penn Quarter is nothing like the original version, where elaborate date nights and tourists were the norm. Now, afterwork drinkers furiously text at the bar while people on quiet date nights pick at beautifully plated roasted sunchokes. It’s a small, intimate affair that has an equally small menu with dishes like a scallop crudo served with a black-and-white tapioca cracker made with nori and squid ink. But while the plates are pretty, they lack the flavor and cohesiveness of the old Moon Rabbit. Skip the main menu and impress your date with cocktails like the pandan forward Phô Cô, an Old Fashioned-style drink. And end your night by splitting the green curry sponge cake topped with creamy avocado ice cream and soursop mousse.
