On West 76th, about a block from the Hudson, there’s a hotel with a generic beige brick facade called The Wallace. It doesn’t look very interesting, but if you walk inside and hang a right at the lobby, you’ll find a cocktail lounge with leather armchairs and rugs spread out over parquet floors. We’d bet our 401k that most people have never heard of this place, and that’s half the appeal. If you’re looking for a quiet spot where you can drink a quality martini and eat some fancy bar snacks with full confidence that you won’t see any of your friends, neighbors, or loved ones, book a table. The velvet sofas in The Wallace Lounge are perfect for naps or liaisons, and you can catch live music on weekends.
