Softside doesn’t just sell soft ice cream—they sell Lactaid, too. It’s the kind of super millennial touch that could be annoying, if the ice cream wasn’t so good. But it is good: it’s light, airy, and creamy, and you can get your standard chocolate-dipped cone, but also a pistachio and strawberry swirl, or some vanilla in a cup swimming with olive oil. The walk-up window in Soho is open every day, which means that you never have to scour the streets of Manhattan for the ice cream truck again. Yes, the prices are higher, but the swirls are huge. Softside is from the team behind Upside Pizza right next door, so you can chase your pepperoni slice with Lactaid and a cone (or vice versa). Note that in the winter, this place operates as Soupside, serving different seasonal soups.
