The pint glasses feature both the Guinness and Notre Dame logos, and the yellowing walls are covered with vintage whiskey ads and posters for plays by Sean O’Casey and Martin McDonagh. If you couldn’t tell from the name, it should become apparent once you step inside the cottage-like space in Riverdale that An Beal Bocht is a very Irish bar. Hang your coat by the door, then grab a table near the old stone fireplace and enjoy some heavily browned bangers with a pile of mash that’s as stiff as plaster (and buttery too). The atmosphere is as quaint and casual as any small-town pub, and there’s live entertainment on most nights—generally music, but also open mic and impromptu storytelling.
